Officials: Hoverboard sparks fire in Arlington Heights home
A hoverboard caught fire inside an Arlington Heights home Friday afternoon, officials said.
Crews were dispatched to the 2300 block of Michael Manor Lane just after 3 p.m. after a 911 call reporting a hoverboard had ignited, according to a news release from the Arlington Heights Fire Department.
Shortly before this call, the fire department had been dispatched to an accident with reported injuries on I-90, the release stated. Once the accident was determined to be managed all units were directed to the fire.
Upon initial arrival fire crews reported no visible signs of the fire from outside, however, once they entered the home, they found thick smoke and flames on the second floor. They also discovered that the home’s occupants all had escaped safely.
Firefighters quickly and successfully contained and extinguished the fire; damages to the home were minimal.
No injuries to firefighters or residents were reported.
