Ezee Fiber bringing fiber-optic cable to Barrington

Ezee Fiber is bringing fiber-optic cable to the village.

Village trustees Monday approved a license agreement with the national firm, which has an office in Elk Grove Village.

Allen Rauth, the firm’s director of governmental affairs delivered his pitch to trustees, telling them his firm’s goal is to bring fiber to every street and every resident in the village.

“Transparency is the end goal of all this,” he said. “Communication is really important to us.”

The company began in Houston providing service to hospitals, schools and government buildings and expanded to residential service after COVID-19 when home internet needs became critical.

Rauth said it will increase internet speeds.

“To give you an idea, most residents in the community are currently maybe maxing out at one gig. Our slowest speed is twice that,” he said.

It will also offer competition, he said.

“We’re looking to go down every street and provide every resident a new option for internet services,” he added.

Trustee Brian Prigge said he was excited about the agreement, hoping it would offer some competition in the area and bring with it better pricing and services.

The agreement gives access to and use of village rights-of-way for the installation and maintenance of fiber optic cable.

Within 45 days of approval, Ezee Fiber must submit preliminary construction information to the village manager.

Although, the village will not gain significant revenue from the agreement, public agencies, including the village, the library and schools, will receive free access.
