Lake Zurich approves new Advocate outpatient, immediate care center

Advocate Health Care will be expanding its footprint and services in Lake Zurich with a new outpatient center.

The village board recently approved a series of actions to allow for development of a 12,500-square-foot facility on five acres at the northwest corner of Route 12 and Miller Road.

Offerings will include primary and immediate care, along with laboratory and X-ray services in a single-story building.

Advocate already offers outpatient care, occupational therapy and home health care services from offices on Surryse Road in Lake Zurich, as well as primary care in Wauconda.

But those facilities are at capacity, officials say. The new site will provide immediate care, which isn't available at the other Advocate facilities in town, and additional primary care to supplement existing services. The closest Advocate immediate care facilities are in Hoffman Estates and Crystal Lake.

The plan has been in progress over a year, starting in May 2025, when Advocate requested a courtesy review from the village board.

To build the center, the company sought approval to have donated residentially-zoned properties combined and annexed into the village, then rezoned as a business use for offices and clinics.

At a public hearing in September, the advisory planning and zoning commission voted 6-0 to recommend approval of the proposal.

Rather than proceed with preliminary plan approval, Advocate opted to have the village board consider a final plan, a switch that required time to deliver and review a volume of documents and hash out annexation agreements, explained Assistant Village Manager Michael Duebner.

Those agreements outline terms and conditions of the development, including public and private improvements, financial guarantees and other details. The approved site plan includes parking, stormwater management, landscaping and provisions for future expansion.

Renderings presented to the village board in advance of a vote last week showed new Advocate facilities have a common theme of using elongated brick, decorative metal panels and expansive glass for a more contemporary look outside.

The setup inside is meant to reduce congestion, improve privacy and produce a calmer environment.

“This is part of a branding strategy,” said Jose Belardo, architect and senior project manager for HDR Architecture Inc. “It's all about enhancing the patient experience.”

Similar facilities have opened in Lakemoor and Hoffman Estates, he added. Groundbreaking in Lake Zurich is anticipated in late August or early September.

According to the village, the request is consistent with strategic goals related to economic development, business growth and continued investment along the Route 12 corridor.
