Palatine police arrest man accused of serial trespassing

A 29-year-old Palatine man faces charges in connection with several suspicious incidents in a residential area over a week-and-a-half period this month.

Jonny E. Hernandez-Mendoza was arrested Thursday after an investigation into a series of reports between June 5 and June 17 on the 1700 block of North Rose Avenue.

Police said multiple residents reported a man seen during the late-night and early-morning hours hanging outside ground-floor apartment windows.

Residents reported observing him manipulating window screens and attempting to open windows in an attempt enter residences.

Although property damage was reported at least once, no entry was gained, police said.

Detectives investigating identified the suspect and obtained information about similar incidents within the apartment complex dating back to December 2024.

He is charged with five counts of attempted criminal trespass to a residence, one count of criminal damage to property and five counts of disorderly conduct.

He is scheduled to appear in court in Rolling Meadows Aug. 3.
