Mobile Museum of Tolerance launches ‘We the People of Illinois’ exhibit in Bensenville

On Tuesday, June 23, the Mobile Museum of Tolerance will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the launch of its newest traveling exhibit, “We the People of Illinois,” exploring stories of community, shared prejudice, and the fight for equality throughout Illinois’ diverse history.

Within the educational experience, visitors will gain a deeper understanding of how these shared histories continue to inform contemporary conversations about justice and the movement for greater tolerance in Illinois.

The Mobile Museum of Tolerance, a national educational initiative of the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles, is an innovative classroom on wheels that brings facilitator-led workshops designed to combat hate and promote tolerance directly to schools and communities across the country. At a time of increasing division, using the lessons of history to teach tolerance is more urgent than ever.

The ceremony will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, at Bensenville Community Public Library, 200 S. Church Road, Bensenville.

Amid growing concerns about hate, prejudice, and misinformation nationwide, educators and communities are seeking meaningful ways to help students examine history and understand its impact on the world they live in today.

The Mobile Museum of Tolerance supports these efforts by offering innovative, immersive experiences that bring history to life, from the Civil Rights era to present-day challenges facing young people, while delivering this learning experience directly to educational settings through immersive programming and facilitated dialogue, equipping educators with practical tools to address hate, encourage critical reflection, and promote greater tolerance.

By connecting historical lessons to present-day challenges facing young people, the workshops support active participation and reflection, helping educators and students confront intolerance, strengthen empathy, and play a role in building more respectful and tolerant communities.

In February 2021, America’s first Mobile Museum of Tolerance rolled out in Chicago. Since 2021, it has expanded to five states with nine Mobile Museums. Learn more at mmot.com or facebook.com/MobileMOT/.
