Teenage girl hit, killed by freight train in Mundelein
A 15-year-old girl was struck and killed by a freight train Saturday afternoon while walking at a crossing in Mundelein, authorities said.
Mundelein police said the girl was hit at about 2:16 p.m. by a southbound train on the Canadian National Railway tracks in the 200 block of East Park Street.
There are gates at the grade-level crossing, and they appeared to be functioning properly at the time the teen was struck, police said.
Authorities did not disclose the teen’s identity. The Lake County coroner’s office and Mundelein police continue to investigate the death.
