Aurora Pride Parade draws thousands in celebration of equality
Downtown Aurora came alive with color and joy Sunday as the city hosted its annual Pride Parade.
More than 80 parade entries featuring hundreds of marchers were cheered on by thousands of spectators as the event celebrated its diversity and welcoming spirit.
“There’s a lot of enthusiasm for people here celebrating equality here in the city of Aurora,” said Mayor John Laesch, who marched along with community organizations, performers and local businesses.
Grand marshal Carlos Arechiga of Warrenville, an Aurora restaurateur and business operator, rode at the front in a green sports car.
“It’s amazing,” Arechiga said of the honor. “It’s a beautiful day for it, too.”
