Six displaced after fire destroys detached garage and damages home in Aurora

A fire destroyed a detached garage in Aurora Tuesday and left the nearby home uninhabitable, displacing six residents.

Aurora firefighters responded at about 5:10 p.m. to the 1500 block of Sandy Lane and found a garage in flames. All occupants of the home had already safely evacuated.

Crews brought the fire under control within eight minutes of arriving. No injuries were reported, but the garage was declared a total loss.

The residence sustained only minor heat damage. But the fire damaged the home’s electrical service, leaving it without power and deemed uninhabitable.

Officials said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
