South Elgin man arrested after barricading himself in a home, threatening police
A South Elgin man was arrested on Tuesday after barricading himself inside a home along Oakwood Lane, South Elgin police announced.
Wasfi M. Farooqui, 56, was outside a home on the 500 block of Oakwood Lane at around 2:30 p.m. when a patrol officer recognized him as someone with multiple felony arrest warrants, according to a news release from the South Elgin Police Department.
According to authorities, the officer tried to arrest Farooqui, but he hit the officer, causing minor injuries, and fled into the home.
When additional police officers arrived, Farooqui barricaded himself inside a bedroom and threatened to shoot the officers, authorities said. At that point, the officers established a perimeter around the home and requested assistance from other agencies, officials said.
After failed attempts at verbal de-escalation, officers from the Kane County SWAT team entered the home and arrested Farooqui without further incident.
Farooqui was charged with one felony count of aggravated resisting arrest, one felony count of threatening a public official and two misdemeanor counts of resisting a police officer.
Authorities said Farooqui is being held at the Kane County jail.
