Questions remain after man’s death in a pond at Twin Lakes golf course

Police are investigating the death of a man whose body was pulled from a pond at the Twin Lakes Golf Course & Recreation Area Monday evening.

The man has yet to be identified.

Police said they responded along with Illinois State Police at approximately 6:11 p.m. to the 1200 block of East Twin Lakes Drive for a report of a suspicious person.

Officers and troopers located an individual matching that person’s description and attempted to make contact with him.

The man entered a nearby body of water and did not resurface, police said.

The Palatine Fire Department initiated rescue efforts, and the man was located in the water. He was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital.

As golfers played under withering heat and others lounged on the outdoor deck by the clubhouse on Tuesday, a Major Case Assistance Team van was parked in a nearby driveway.

Diane Hilgers, executive director of the Salt Creek Park District, which runs the Twin Lakes Golf Course & Recreation Area, said the facility closed down in the wake of the man’s death, but reopened Tuesday morning.

She said investigators were there Tuesday taking measurements of the water, while the director of parks met with investigators.

Some people at the golf course Tuesday were concerned by the events of the evening before.

“I’m here all the time,” said Palatine resident Neo Gullstrom, who lives near the course.

Gullstrom said a neighbor told him a man was acting erratically and threatening people on Monday.

Arlington Heights resident Judi Graff noted the recent spate of dead bodies found in ponds.

This year, dead bodies were discovered in ponds in Schaumburg and Elk Grove Village.

“In my subdivision, they have a lake there, too,” she said. “What’s concerning for me is these ponds seem to be becoming the dropping point for too many.”
