Fire leaves Oak Brook home temporarily uninhabitable due to smoke damage

A house in Oak Brook was deemed temporarily uninhabitable after a Monday afternoon fire, officials said.

Firefighters responded at 2:12 p.m. to the report of a structure fire on the 100 block of Indian Trail Road in Oak Brook.

When crews arrived, they found the residents outside the two-story home, according to the Oak Brook Fire Department. The residents told the firefighters that they called 911 after being alerted by smoke detectors and noticing dark black smoke on the second floor.

Firefighters located the fire in a second-floor bedroom on the north side of the house. They extinguished the blaze and limited its spread, officials said.

Authorities said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The home was temporarily uninhabitable because of significant smoke damage, officials said. A damage estimate was not available.
