Man killed in Saturday crash in Round Lake Beach identified

A man police said was killed in a crash after attempting to flee a traffic stop Saturday night in Round Lake Beach has been identified as 39-year-old Hector Guzman of Grayslake.

An autopsy Monday showed Guzman died of blunt force injuries as a result of the crash about 8:44 p.m. at Route 83 and Rollins Road, according to the Lake County Coroner's Office.

According to police, the officer ended the traffic stop attempt on Rollins Road east of Cedar Lake Road and lost sight of the vehicle. The vehicle Guzman was driving crashed into a traffic signal pole about a mile from that point.

Guzman was pronounced dead a few hours later in the intensive care unit at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Round Lake Beach police and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team are investigating.
