Palatine Street Feast offers tasty alternative to Street Fest

Palatine canceled this year’s Street Fest because of streetscape improvements on Slade Street downtown, but crowds turned out Sunday to enjoy food, music and fun in the sun at Palatine Street Feast.

Food trucks filled the parking lot near the village’s Towne Square, offering fare from Brothers BBQ, Curious Crow, Mario’s Cart and other vendors. The offerings ranged from Mexican cuisine to smoked Polish sausage, ice cream, funnel cakes, cupcakes and cookies.

While visitors pleased their palates, they sampled the musical palettes of Kevin Mileski, Pearsnap and Wagon Wheel.

Among those enjoying the festival was village council member Scott Lamerand.

“We're hopeful that we can at least give the community something in place of Street Fest, because it's such a great event every year,” he said.

The streetscape improvements along Slade will provide a long-term benefit, he added.

“With the construction taking place, we thought that what it's going to do for the overall downtown is going to be a net positive,” Lamerand said.
