Larkin High senior awarded Dr. Joshua Alpert Sports Medicine Scholarship

Fox Valley Orthopedics sports medicine specialist Joshua Alpert, M.D., recently awarded Larkin High School senior Ximena Canizales the inaugural $2,000 Dr. Joshua Alpert Sports Medicine Scholarship during a special ceremony held at the school.

The scholarship recognizes outstanding student-athletes who exemplify academic achievement, leadership, dedication, and commitment both on and off the field. After a competitive selection process conducted by Larkin High School administrators and staff, four finalists were selected, with Dr. Alpert choosing the ultimate recipient.

In an unexpected gesture during the presentation, Dr. Alpert also awarded $500 scholarships to each of the three additional finalists, including Mia Satterfield, Miriam Arreola, and Valeria Medrano to assist with textbook and college-related expenses for the upcoming academic year.

“The applications were truly exceptional and reflected the tremendous character, discipline, and work ethic of Larkin’s student-athletes,” said Dr. Alpert. “While Ximena earned the top honor, I was equally inspired by the accomplishments of the other finalists and wanted to support them as they begin this next chapter.”

The awards were presented during Larkin High School’s scholarship ceremony, following the national anthem and Pledge of Allegiance. Dr. Alpert was an opening speaker at the event, presenting the first award of the newly established scholarship.

A board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, Dr. Alpert is committed to supporting student-athletes throughout the Elgin community. In addition to caring for athletes of all ages, he is actively serving as team physician for several local high schools, including Larkin High School.

The Dr. Joshua Alpert Sports Medicine Scholarship reflects Dr. Alpert’s continued dedication to mentorship, education, and investment in the future of local student-athletes.
