Girls lacrosse: York defeats Marist at state semifinals; Barrington falls to Loyola
York 17, Marist 6:
York dominated in the second half of Thursday’s state semifinal at Hinsdale Central to pull away and advance to a Saturday state final showdown with Loyola.
The Dukes outscored Marist 11-3 in the second half. The game was tied 3-3 after one quarter before York (21-3) took command. Kayla Mirante led the way with five goals, while Ella Skotty and Hayden Daniel each tallied three. Elizabeth Specht also came up big for the Dukes, scoring twice and adding three assists. Morgan Navarre added a goal and two helpers in York’s big win.
Goalie Hallas Jasani made three saves while picking up the win. Tessa Dowling paced Marist (16-7) with three goals in the game.
Loyola 18, Barrington 8:
Four players scored three goals each and Loyola blitzed Barrington 14-0 over the second and third quarters to improve to 21-4 this spring.
Jillian Rocchio, Mia Chupaila, Kathleen Devine and Chloe Mangel each found the back of the net three times for Loyola. Barrington got four goals from Harley Thalheimer and three from Gia Klauer, while keeper Maya Arzate made seven saves for the Fillies (22-3).
Next up for Loyola is Saturday’s state championship game against York at noon. Barrington takes on Marist at 10 a.m. for third place. Loyola is making a return trip to the finals after falling to New Trier 8-7 in last year’s championship game.
