Why Batavia police may need your video footage after Wednesday robbery

Police are asking for the public’s help after an overnight robbery in Batavia on Wednesday.

The robbery happened about 2:45 a.m. at Windmill Market and Spirits, 336 E. Wilson St., according to a report from the Batavia Police Department. Officers responded to a business alarm and found a broken window on the front of the building but nobody inside.

Officers reviewed security footage and saw two people had exited their vehicle, broken the window, and entered the store. They then got back into the vehicle and left before officers arrived. The two suspects who entered the store were described as a man and a woman, one who wore black gloves and the other who wore white gloves. A third person is believed to have been driving the van, the release said.

Police specifically are looking for additional security footage of the van from anyone with cameras in the area of North or South Prairie Street or near the store that were active on June 3 between 2:30 and 3:05 a.m.

The incident remains under investigation, and anyone with information is encouraged to call the Batavia Police Department at (630) 454-2500.
