Aurora police find body in retention pond near outlet mall
The Aurora Police Department says a body was found Monday night in a retention pond near the Chicago Premium Outlets.
Investigators were conducting follow-up activities related to an ongoing missing person investigation at about 7:30 p.m. when they observed an object in a retention pond east of North Farnsworth Avenue, near Corporate Boulevard.
Aurora police drones confirmed the presence of a body, which was recovered by the Aurora Fire Department.
The person has not yet been identified by the Kane County Coroner's Office, and the circumstances surrounding the person’s death remain under investigation. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
Aurora police said they were at the scene as part of their investigation into the disappearance of Shafia Murad, 32, who was reported missing on May 28.
Officers initially searched the outlet mall and the surrounding area after she was reported missing. Leads and reviewed surveillance footage indicated she had traveled to the area of North Farnsworth Avenue and Corporate Boulevard, prompting police to search the area again on Monday.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
