Libertyville’s NSDAR chapter awards its Outstanding Cadet Medal
On May 6, the Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Regent Peg Pracht and National Defense Chairwomen Natalie Hilberg presented and awarded a DAR Outstanding Cadet Medal, campaign bar and a certificate signed by NSDAR President General Ginnie Sabastian Storage.
DAR Outstanding Cadet Medals are awarded to student cadets who distinguish themselves through leadership, honor, courage, service and patriotism in non-ROTC, military-affiliated cadet programs funded by schools or privately, including — but not limited to — Naval Sea Cadet Corps and Civil Air Patrol.
The Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter awarded the medal to U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Chief Petty Officer Euan Lacey from the Sea Cadet Nine One One Division at Great Lakes. CPO Lacey is a junior at Lane Tech College Prep High School in Chicago where he is an honors advanced placement student with a 4.8 GPA. He has been in the Nine One One Division since 2020.
The cadet was nominated by LTJG Brian Proa, USNSCC, commanding officer for the Nine One One Division Great Lakes Naval Training Center.
“CPO Lacey was in the League Cadet program and served as a yeoman and crossed over to the Sea Cadets where due to his longevity in the program, he joined the Color Guard performing 13 ceremonies,” Proa wrote. “He supported operations of daily drills and became a squad leader. He then led the way for the rest of the division as the first cadet to participate in the new promotion criteria of passing an exam, and a board of peers nationally to be selected to the rank of chief petty officer. His most notable community service has been for the Veterans Network Committee of Northern Illinois Honor Flight and Field of the Fallen opening ceremony.”
In his roll of CPO, he leads 41 cadets at the Nine One One division.
In Euan’s spare time, he has a huge heart for community service and represents his Scottish culture with his participation in the City of Chicago Pipe Band. He is also a freelance photographer, specializing in event, concert, sports and broadcasting photography. He has a compassionate spirit and is always willing to lend a hand. He is also a member of the Scholastic Action Shooting Program Team and has competed on the state and national levels as a sharpshooter.
The Sea Cadets Nine One One Division was founded in 1959 at the Great Lakes Naval Station. They offer a leadership and development program for ages 10-18.
The U.S. Naval Sea Cadets Corp is a youth volunteer leadership program that builds strong character and is supported by the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard.
The Ansel Brainerd Cook chapter in Libertyville is celebrating its 49th year. Organized in 1977 by 17 members, it has now grown to include more than 185 members. In 2025, the ABC chapter members logged in over 6,800 volunteer hours in the towns we work and live in.
