Police: Man led police on high-speed chase that reached 108 mph
A Villa Park man is facing multiple felony charges after leading police on a high-speed chase early Friday morning that reached speeds of 108 mph, authorities said.
James Hutson, 38, of the 0-100 block of Roosevelt Road, was ordered to remain in jail as he awaits trial on felony charges that include aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer and driving with a suspended license.
According to a news release from the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office, a DuPage County sheriff’s deputy observed a 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis at the Casey's gas station in Naperville near Ogden Avenue and Naper Boulevard just after 2:30 a.m. with plates they allege were not registered to the vehicle.
The deputy followed the vehicle as it left the station and attempted to pull it over after a traffic violation. Instead of pulling over, police say the vehicle driven by Hutson drove off, making his way to eastbound I-88, where he reached speeds of approximately 108 mph.
The deputy stopped the pursuit after Hutson exited at Midwest Road. A short time later, Oakbrook Terrace Police officers located the car driven by Hutson and followed it to a motel in Villa Park, where he surrendered to authorities after running into one of the motel’s rooms.
Hutson’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 22.
