Drivers tagged for DUI, speeding and more in South Barrington

South Barrington police arrested two suspected drunken drivers and issued tickets for a variety of offenses during its Memorial Day enforcement campaign.

The effort was designed to keep roads safe during a busy travel period and encourage seat belt use, police said in a news release.

In addition to the drunken driving arrests, 20 people were ticketed for distracting driving, nine were cited for speeding and eight people got ticketed for not wearing seat belts, police said. Other types of tickets also were issued.

The initiative was funded with federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
