American Wind Band presents ‘Nature’ concert June 7

On Sunday, June 7, the American Wind Band presents “Nature,” a free pops concert closing out its 37th season.

The band directors have chosen a variety of music that includes David Bennett’s “Scenes from the Sierras,” Robert W. Smith’s “American Landscape #1,” Robert Sheldon’s “Of Gale Force Winds,” Romberg and Hammerstein’s “Softly as in a Morning Sunrise,” Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Edelweiss,” Leroy Anderson’s “Summer Skies,” and a few patriotic songs.

The concert will begin at 3 p.m. on the lawn on the west side of the American Legion Post 80, 4000 Saratoga Ave. in Downers Grove. Admission is free; donations welcome.

Bring a lawn chair or blanket, umbrella for shade, sunscreen and bug spray. Please leave pets at home. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held in the Legion hall.

American Wind Band, based in Downers Grove, promotes the understanding and appreciation of concert band literature through performance for the enjoyment of all in attendance. Many thanks to the American Legion Post 80 for hosting our concert.

After Labor Day, the band will resume rehearsals at 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays at the First United Methodist Church, 1032 Maple Ave., Downers Grove. New members are welcome and auditions are not required.
