Roads reopen after natural gas leak in Wheeling
A natural gas leak in Wheeling prompted road closures near Chicago Executive Airport on Wednesday morning, but the situation was resolved within two hours.
The leak was near Milwaukee Avenue and Hintz Road, not far from the northeast corner of the airport. It started about 7:45 a.m. when a contractor hit a gas main with equipment, Village Manager Jon Sfondilis said.
Milwaukee Avenue’s southbound lanes were blocked at River Mill Parkway, and its northbound lanes were blocked at Industrial Lane. The eastbound lanes of Hintz Road were blocked at Wolf Road.
The roads reopened about 9:30 a.m. after a team from Nicor Gas responded to fix the leak.
