Authorities: Motorcyclist pulled gun on Hoffman Estates police officers during traffic stop

A motorcyclist who authorities said pulled a gun on Hoffman Estates police officers during a traffic stop earlier this month is facing multiple felony charges.

Dhruv Patel, 26, of Elgin, is charged with aggravated unlawful possession of a firearm, aggravated assault of a peace officer and aggravated resisting arrest.

The stop occurred at about 6:41 p.m. on May 14 on the 5700 block of River Birch Drive.

Police said Patel was driving his motorcycle on a public road with no valid registration and with a suspended license.

As officers attempted to arrest Patel, they said he pulled a handgun from his sweater and attempted to point it at officers.

Officers were able to maintain physical control of Patel until additional units arrived, police said. Responding officers disarmed Patel arrested him.

Minor injuries were reported by officers, but none reported to Patel, who was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

He was scheduled to be in court Tuesday.
