Guzman y Gomez closes all suburban locations

Guzman y Gomez Mexican Kitchen announced Friday that it was closing all of its U.S. restaurants ― all of which were in the suburbs and Chicago.

“After six years of burritos and big dreams in Chicagoland, we’ve made the difficult decision to close our U.S. restaurants,” a statement on the restaurant’s website said.

The Australian-based restaurant opened its first U.S. location in Naperville in 2020 and added locations in Schaumburg, Des Plaines, Buffalo Grove, Crystal Lake, Deerfield, Evanston, and one in Chicago’s Bucktown neighborhood.

The chain also has restaurants in Australia, Japan and Singapore. Those restaurants will remain open.
