Playhouse 38 stages timely political drama for America’s 250th anniversary

Tickets are now on sale for the adult production of “We Hold These Truths,” running May 29-31 and June 5-7 at Playhouse 38, Geneva Park District’s community theater. The director and playwright is Therese Harrold.

“On the tail of Memorial Day and the brink of our country's 250th anniversary enters ‘We Hold These Truths,’ a political drama that dramatizes and celebrates freedom of speech, differences of opinion, community building with all the challenges therein,” Harrold said. “The tension and flux between patriotism and self-interests, ageism and new wave, exclusivity vs. inclusion is the impetus for this two-act play.”

“A political science senior, so done with school, enters real-world politics to win with her democratic ideals, values, ultimately her SELF,” she added.

The cast includes Larry Boller, Elizabeth DiGiacomo, John Frankenthal, Gretchen Gehrhardt, Therese Harrold, Toria Hollyn, Jami Johnson, Luke Knol, and Siobhan Maguire.

Performances will be at 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays, May 29 to June 7, at Playhouse 38, 321 Stevens St., Suite P in Geneva.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 day-of. Concessions will be available for purchase, including alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, popcorn and candy.

“There will be a Happy Birthday USA cake at the Sunday matinees along with an opportunity for ‘talk back’ about the play,” Harrold said.
