Ascension Saint Alexius in Hoffman Estates earns top 5-star hospital rating

Ascension Illinois announced Friday that Ascension Saint Alexius in Hoffman Estates has earned a five-star overall hospital rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

Saint Alexius is one of only 14 hospitals in the state to have earned a five-star score for CMS’ May 2026 grades.

The CMS Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings are derived from 46 publicly reported quality measures across five quality domains: Mortality, Patient Experience, Readmission, Safety of Care, and Timely and Effective Care.

These quality measures are aggregated and a single composite star rating is assigned by CMS for each hospital, with five stars indicating the highest level of hospital performance.

Last year CMS reported a star score for 2,891 U.S. hospitals, with the national average rating decreasing from 3.13 stars in 2024 to 3.08 stars.
