Lane closures coming to Ogden Avenue, Washington Street in Naperville due to water main work

Naperville drivers should brace for ongoing lane closures on two heavily traveled roads as a result of a water main project.

The city is replacing an aging water main along Ogden Avenue, between Washington Street to the west and Wright Street to the east. Crews are also installing a new water main along Washington, between Ogden and Bauer Road.

Work in the area began in spring 2025 and was temporarily paused during the fall and winter, according to the city.

Beginning next week, crews are scheduled to restart work to replace the old main with a new, upsized 16-inch pipe in accordance with city standards. The existing cast-iron pipe dates to the 1950s and 1960s.

The project is expected to continue through October, pending weather and unforeseen circumstances. It also includes the replacement of water valves, hydrants and services along the length of the water main.

Crews will generally work Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m, though occasionally, they may need to work later than that.

The city urges drivers to use caution and follow signage, exercise patience and allow for additional travel time. There may also be occasional disruptions to water service.
