Elgin and Palatine police host Cop on a Rooftop fundraiser for Special Olympics
Elgin police officers stood outside the Dunkin’ Donuts along Larkin Avenue early Friday morning to collect donations for Special Olympics Illinois from customers waiting in the drive-through.
The statewide Cop on a Rooftop event supports the Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run campaign for Special Olympics Illinois.
“I absolutely love this event,” remarked Traci Warren of Elgin after making her donation at the Dunkin’ Donuts at 1500 Larkin Ave. location in Elgin.
At the Dunkin’ Donuts in Palatine, officer Nick Slomka smiled and waved a giant inflatable doughnut from the rooftop, trying to grab the attention of drivers passing by.
Several local Special Olympians joined the officers in Palatine to help collect donations, including Special Olympians Allison Meehan of Palatine, Katelyn Grunewald of Wauconda, and Kyle Tuckey of Palatine.
Customers who donated received a coupon for a free doughnut, while a donation of $10 or more often included a coupon for a free medium hot or iced coffee.
Community members are encouraged to stop by for coffee, make a donation, and help support programs and opportunities for Special Olympics athletes throughout Illinois.
