Suspect arrested in $100k burglary of Antioch business

A 28-year-old Round Lake Beach man faces a trio of felony charges stemming from the theft of more than $100,000 in cash from an Antioch business late last year.

Quinn M. Cahill is charged with theft over $100,000, burglary and criminal damage to property in connection with the late November break-in, according to Antioch police.

Police said Cahill’s arrest follows an investigation that began on the 900 block of Route 59.

The business owner reported to officers that someone had forced entry by smashing through its glass doors, police said.

Surveillance video footage showed the burglary occurred at approximately 5 a.m. that morning. During the break-in, the offender took deliberate steps in an attempt to conceal his identity while removing a safe that contained more than $100,000 in currency, police said.

Cahill was arrested Wednesday by Antioch police detectives in Round Lake Beach, with the assistance of the Round Lake Beach Police Department, officials said. He was taken to the Lake County jail and released Thursday after an initial court appearance. He’s scheduled to return to court June 15, records show.

“I want to especially commend our detectives for their outstanding efforts in investigating this case, identifying the offender, and safely taking him into custody,” Antioch Police Chief Geoffrey Guttschow said Thursday in an announcement of the arrest.
