Citations issued in February crash that killed a Batavia man

A woman has been charged with speeding and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident following an investigation into a February crash that killed a 65-year-old man from Batavia.

Batavia police said in a news release that a Chrysler Sebring driven by Chris Boettcher, 65, was attempting to turn west onto Mill Street at about 7:50 p.m. on Feb. 24 when it collided with a Hyundai Elantra driven by 54-year-old Christine Nitti of Batavia.

Boetthcher later died from his injuries on March 20.

Nitti, of the 1300 block of Spencer Lane in Batavia, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was released from a hospital after the crash.

She was issued the citations on Tuesday, following an investigation that included a review of event data recorder information, video surveillance and witness accounts.
