Chicago Fire’s new downtown stadium to be called McDonald’s Park
The Chicago Fire’s new stadium, opening in 2028, will be named McDonald’s Park, as the fast-food giant and the MLS club announced a naming rights partnership on Wednesday.
The soccer specific stadium in downtown Chicago marks McDonald’s first time as a naming-rights partner for a major professional sports stadium in the U.S. Among other features, McDonald’s Park will house a permanent McDonald’s restaurant. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“As we take the next step on our journey to build a world class club, our commitment to Chicago is at the center of everything we do,” Fire owner and chairman Joe Mansueto said in a statement. “That’s why McDonald’s is the perfect partner — an iconic global brand with deep Chicago roots and shared values in supporting our community. McDonald’s Park will be the stadium that Chicago deserves.”
McDonald’s Park, a privately funded $750-million and 22,000-seat venue, will be located in Chicago’s South Loop neighborhood on the riverfront. Both parties aim for the new home of the Fire to host concerts and other events beyond just soccer games.
The two brands will also form a broader partnership with the Fire beyond just naming rights. Beginning in 2027, McDonald’s will be the presenting partner of the Fire’s P.L.A.Y.S. Program, which focuses on a soccer-based curriculum which operates in 70 public schools in Chicago. There will be further charitable programs via the Ronald McDonald House.
“Together, we are creating more than a stadium,” McDonald’s chairman and CEO Chris Kempczinski said. “We are building a place that serves up joy, brings together community, delivers impact, and is designed to serve generations to come.”
The Fire now plays at Soldier Field after leaving SeatGeek Stadium in Southwest suburban Bridgeview following the 2019 season. The club is in the midst of a revival under head coach and sporting director Gregg Berhalter, making the playoffs in 2025 in Berhalter’s first year in charge. The former U.S. men’s national team coach has the team among the best in the Eastern Conference this season, sitting in fourth place entering a midweek match at D.C. United.
McDonald’s Park joins Inter Miami’s Nu Stadium (just opened) and NYCFC’s $780 million Etihad Park (opening in 2027) as part of the new wave of MLS stadiums. FC Dallas is also in the midst of a $182 million renovation to Toyota Stadium, which is due to be complete in 2028.
