Naperville firefighters rescue 10 ducklings on Mother’s Day

Naperville firefighters saved the day for a certain resident on Mother’s Day.

A crew from the Naperville Fire Department responded to a rescue call Sunday in south Naperville, acting after a homeowner heard a duck “quacking frantically,” according to a department post on social media.

A mother duck had lost 10 of her ducklings, who had fallen through a sewer grate.

Firefighters quickly recovered six of the ducklings by going into the sewer to retrieve them.

They got the other four by using a hose and a stream of water to push the ducklings farther down the storm sewer, where another firefighter was there to scoop them up.

The mother duck was reunited with all 10 of her babies.
