GOP policies help rich at expense of needy

Regarding a recent letter headlined, “Pray for resolution”: It is not a resolution if one side has to acquiesce to others, who support the ever-widening gap between the rich and poor and even the middle class.

This did not happen overnight. This creates a feedback loop, as the poor in every community need more help and the costs to organizations and communities is ever increasing. Since Ronald Reagan, the Republican Party’s cuts to the most vulnerable have become the policies that serve to make the rich richer and the poor poorer.

Reagan’s cuts affected the school lunch program and for some this was the only meal some children had. How can anyone accept the fact that the multibillionaires have received billions in “welfare.”

Not even the Federal Tax Schedule is fair. From 12% for incomes up to $12,400, it is a graduated percentage up to 37% for individual single taxpayers with incomes greater than $640,600. After the $640,600 bracket, the graduated percent is the same, no matter how much more is earned, even if it is billions.

I hope everyone paid attention to the letter “Riding the taxation trolley to fairness.” by R.D Barlow. This was a pretty good explication of why billionaires can pay less of a percentage in taxes and sometimes even 0%.

Trickle-down is only good for the rich. There is no reason that any child should not have a safe place to sleep, a good education and food. I do not feel that we should spend one penny of our taxes on the ballroom for a man who cannot dance, no matter what the made-up reasons are.
