34th annual Elgin Area Firefighter Memorial Service to be held May 16

The Elgin Fire Department will host the 34th Annual Elgin Area Firefighter Memorial Service on Saturday, May 16, at 10 a.m. at the Illinois Firefighter Memorial Plaza in George Van De Voorde Firefighter Memorial Park at 533 St. Charles St.

The annual service brings together the Elgin Fire Department and approximately 20 surrounding fire departments to honor and remember Illinois firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty over the past year, as well as active and retired members of participating departments who have passed away off duty.

The event is open to the public and will be held outdoors. In the event of inclement weather, the service will be moved to Calvary Baptist Church, 551 Arlington Avenue.
