High-visibility traffic safety initiative for Route 59 corridor Saturday

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office will join law enforcement agencies spanning nearly 72 miles from the Wisconsin state line to Will County in a traffic safety initiative focused on Route 59 on Saturday, May 9.

Authorities will focus on the “Fatal Four” traffic violations: driving under the influence; speeding; seat belt/child restraint use; and distracted driving.

Law enforcement agencies participating in the initiative are those with direct jurisdiction over portions of the heavily traveled road.

The high-visibility campaign is supported by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation and aligns with Illinois’ statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Click It or Ticket” and “It’s Not a Game” campaigns.
