Sara Schroeder Photography Exhibit
“Observe. Preserve. Evolve.,” the exhibit on display now at the Des Plaines History Center Gallery, features the work of photographer Sara Schroeder. It revisits 23 years of artistic and documentary photos Schroeder has made in Des Plaines, Chicago and around the country. It’s an arresting collection of images that engage and inspire with a variety of messages, some subtle, some fun, some educational, some serious, all thought-provoking. Schroeder has an eye for documenting history, and this one-of-a-kind exhibit has something in it for all ages to enjoy and reflect on.
“Reviewing tens of thousands of photos, both film and digital, to curate this exhibit was an overwhelming but joyful adventure,” Schroeder said. The exhibit is dedicated to the entire Maine West High School Fine Arts Department of the early 2000s, and her photography teachers: Mike Poehler, Melissa Lloyd and Greg Regalado. “They nurtured the artist and documentarian that I am today, allowing me to explore the value in both my journalistic and fine arts observations.”
A reception is scheduled from 5:30-8 p.m. on June 25, with an Artist Talk at 7 p.m.
The History Center, at 781 Pearson Street in Des Plaines, is open noon to 4 p.m. Sunday through Friday, and from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesdays. Additional hours are planned. Check the website. Admission to the exhibit is free, with donations gratefully accepted.
