Aurora inviting public to help name four baby falcons born near city hall

The city of Aurora is asking people to help name four baby falcons who hatched while under the wings of their mother on the side of city hall.

The mother falcon, named Vixen, began nesting in a crevice on the outside of the second floor in early April. She laid four eggs, with two hatching on Friday, May 1, and the other two hatching on Monday.

Vixen was fledged from a nest in Minneapolis and made a falcon love connection when she met an adult male peregrine named Dave, who was fledged from a nest in Chicago.

City officials are inviting the public to name the four falcon babies, with nominations open at yourvoice.aurora.il.us/babyfalcons. Entries will be accepted through Monday, May 11. The top 10 submissions will be voted on by the public, with the top four vote-getters serving as the new names of the baby falcons.

The city’s Information Technology Department and Video Production Division have set up a live, 24- hour “Falcon Cam” that residents can view anytime at aurora.il.us/FalconCam.
