Art show season is blooming in the suburbs

May flowers aren’t the only eye-catching beauty starting to pop up across the suburbs now that April showers are (hopefully) behind us.

Art show season is underway, filling our local parks, town squares and other public gathering spaces with the work of the region’s finest creatives.

Many of them gathered Sunday at Deer Park Town Center for the annual Deer Park Art Show. The free event highlighted original works of art from 75 artists, along with painting classes, a Kids Art Zone, face painting, live music and more.

Among the artists showing their work was Phil Schorn of Grayslake, who created sketches in colored pencil as admirers passed by Sunday. Asked what he most enjoys about working in colored pencil, Schorn said, “Because you don’t erase, there are no mistakes.”
