Police: Man found dead near Chicago Executive Airport may be hit-and-run victim

A man found dead Sunday along the fence of the Chicago Executive Airport in Prospect Heights may have been the victim of a hit-and-run driver, police said.

According to Prospect Heights police, officers found the man at about 9:01 a.m. while responding to a report of an unconscious person near the viewing area outside the airport, in the vicinity of 79 E. Palatine Frontage Road.

First responders from the Prospect Heights Fire Protection District arrived and pronounced the man dead at the scene, authorities said.

A preliminary investigation indicates the death may involve a vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash, police said. At the time officers arrived, there were no witnesses present and no individuals or vehicles on scene appeared to be connected to the victim, according to police.

No suspects have been identified and no arrests have been made, police said. The victim has been identified, and officers are working to locate and notify next of kin.

The Prospect Heights Police Department, with assistance from Major Case Assistance Team accident investigators, are processing evidence and conducting interviews to determine the cause and circumstances of the death, officials said.
