Des Plaines woman’s check altered and cashed

A Des Plaines woman reported that a check she’d written was altered and cashed for a larger amount, police said this week.

The woman had written a $450 check to pay a credit card bill and mailed it on March 25 from the Des Plaines post office, according to a news release. The woman later discovered the check had been cashed for $1,930.

The recipient’s name had been altered, too, police said.
