Hanover Township kite festival returns to Hoffman Estates May 9

Hanover Township’s third annual Kite Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 9, at the Carl R. Hansen Woods Forest Preserve on Route 59 south of Shoe Factory Road in Hoffman Estates.

The festival is in celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and honors the origin of kites.

A limited number of free kites will be available for distribution. Attendees are also encouraged to bring their own kites. Brookfield Zoo Chicago’s Animal Ambassador Program will be on site with a surprise animal visitor.

During the event, kids can explore Crabtree Nature Center’s interactive display of local natural artifacts. Free popcorn, snow cones and a bounce house will be available.

In addition to parking at the preserve, free off-site parking with shuttle service will be offered at Streamwood High School, 701 W. Schaumburg Road in Streamwood.
