The president’s selective gratitude
President Trump’s expression of gratitude for law enforcement’s response to his safety at the National Press Club Dinner was proper and well deserved.
Why was that gratitude not given to the nearly 150 officers who responded to the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol? Their injuries included concussions, cracked ribs, loss of eyesight, stab wounds from improvised weapons (flagpole, a crutch, hockey stick), heart attack and a suicide connected to line of duty.
President Trump described the actors who caused these injuries as “patriots and hostages” and pardoned them.
Does gratitude only work for the president when he’s threatened? If that is the best the we can expect from Trump, so be it. Lack of gratitude is the least of our worries with this administration.
