‘A consummate networker’: Elgin Chamber of Commerce president to retire
Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Carol Gieske this week announced her retirement after years of leadership and service to the business community.
“Leaders of organizations should strive to leave them in a better position than what they encountered,” Elgin Chamber Chairman Steve Migala said in a news release. “By any measure of this goal, Carol Gieske has succeeded in accomplishing it as president and CEO of our Elgin Area Chamber.”
Migala said Gieske has guided the chamber through “exceptional growth” and helped enhance its reputation in the community.
“Being a consummate networker, Carol has elevated the chamber’s role in providing value to our members, keeping people at the center of her work,” he said. “On behalf of the board of directors, we are deeply grateful for her vision, her integrity, and the legacy she leaves behind.”
During her tenure, Gieske strengthened the chamber’s impact, advanced economic development initiatives, and positioned the organization as a vital resource and connector for local businesses. Her leadership has guided the chamber through growth, innovation, and meaningful community engagement, the release said.
“Serving the Elgin community has been one of the greatest honors of my career,” Gieske said. “I am proud of what we’ve accomplished together and confident in the chamber’s continued success.”
Before joining the Elgin Chamber, Gieske led the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation, where she oversaw a capital campaign that raised more than $11 million for major health care expansions. She also served as CEO of the United Way of Elgin, helping raise more than $44 million to support local social service organizations.
Gieske has received numerous honors for her impact and leadership. She serves on multiple boards and initiatives advancing education, health care, community service, and leadership development.
The Elgin Chamber’s Board of Directors will begin the search for its next leader, with a focus on ensuring a seamless transition and continued momentum, the release said.
