Conant High School assistant principal mourned after weekend death

Conant High School in Hoffman Estates is mourning the weekend death of one of its assistant principals.

Since 2023, Monte Holt was one of the school’s three assistant principals who each lead a separate learning support team assisting with students’ academic and behavioral needs.

“District 211 is saddened by the passing of James B. Conant assistant principal Monte Holt,” officials said in a statement. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time. Mr. Holt was a dedicated educator and compassionate leader who built meaningful relationships with students, families and colleagues. He will be remembered for his unwavering support of student success and the positive impact he made on the Conant community.”

Officials added that grief support and counseling will remain available for Conant’s students, staff and families. They asked that his family’s privacy be respected as the school community honors the educator’s life and legacy.

Prior to his arrival at Conant as assistant principal, Holt worked elsewhere as a physical education teacher from 2014 to 2017 before becoming a health and driver’s education teacher until 2022. He also coached girls basketball from 2017 to 2022.

Holt earned his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from Eastern Illinois University and his master’s degree in principal administration from Governors State University.
