A school plan that’s better than vouchers
Regarding the claim: “GOP candidate knows value of school choice.”: Not so much.
Illinois 529 Plan information states, “In Illinois, families can withdraw up to $20,000 tax-free per student each year from a 529 Plan to pay for K-12 expenses. Additionally, contributions to the Bright Start 529 plan may qualify for a state tax deduction of up to $20,000 for married couples filing jointly.”
The 529 Plans also has a college saving plan with the same tax deductions. Anyone can contribute to these plans. Think about doing contributions to these plans for a birthday or Christmas gift — truly a lifelong gift.
We have two grandkids going to private school. We have taken advantage of this program. Also their parents places of employment offer 529 plan deductions from their pay checks, in their states. 49 states have similar 529 plans.
I feel these are much better than a voucher. But check into it and if this works for you. Don’t hesitate to send a message to friends and family informing them of the advantage for them to contribute to the parents existing plan or one of their own. You can find out all of the information of these plans online, at Illinois 529 K-12 plan through the Bright Stat or 529 College Savings Plan, which allows funds to be used for K-12 public, private and religious school tuition as well as for post-secondary education expenses. For detailed information, visit the official Bright Start website or the Illinois Treasurer’s website.
