Oak Brook Park District participates in annual River Sweep effort
The Oak Brook Park District recently joined communities across the region in the annual River Sweep, a large-scale environmental cleanup organized by The Conservation Foundation.
Held on April 18, 2026, the River Sweep is a one-day, volunteer-driven initiative that brings together residents, organizations, and local agencies to remove debris from waterways and surrounding areas.
The event spans communities throughout DuPage County and parts of Will County, with the shared goal of improving the health and appearance of local rivers and streams.
The Oak Brook Park District saw strong local support, with more than 20 volunteers dedicating their time to clean up park district property. Participants worked together to remove litter and debris, helping to protect natural habitats and enhance the beauty of the community’s open spaces.
Since its inception in 1991, the River Sweep has engaged more than 16,000 volunteers and removed over 300 tons of garbage from regional waterways, demonstrating the powerful impact of collective environmental stewardship.
The Oak Brook Park District remains committed to sustainability and encourages residents to continue supporting environmental initiatives throughout the year.
