Pope is non-partisan

W. Brand Bobosky in his recent letter to the editor argues without evidence that Pope Leo may be a Democrat and should keep out of politics. As a fellow lifelong Catholic, I can confidently state that Mr. Bobosky is incorrect in his analysis. Pope Leo is speaking as the Vicar of Christ and sharing the truth of the Gospel as well as centuries of Catholic teaching according to theologians, the USCCB, the Catechism, Papal encyclicals and the Magisterium of the Church. If the pope's comments challenge the actions of Trump, who has shown himself to be a blasphemer, or any president or political leader, so be it. As Catholics, we should align ourselves with the teachings of Jesus — not with any political party or secular leader.
