Buffalo Grove High School security team member remains hospitalized after crash
A Buffalo Grove High School staff member remains hospitalized following a crash involving a vehicle and a pole near the school Tuesday afternoon.
Meanwhile, police are continuing to investigate the crash, which occurred at about 3:20 p.m. A vehicle attempting to exit the parking lot onto Dundee Road left the roadway and hit a pole. The pole then struck the staff member.
Buffalo Grove police officers were on scene immediately and provided emergency medical aid before the staff member was transported to a local hospital. The driver of the vehicle has been fully cooperating with investigators, police said.
“He is a valued and well-known member of our campus safety team who was supervising students at the crosswalk,” Buffalo Grove High School Principal Jeff Wardle wrote to families. “As the situation quickly unfolded, he took action to protect students standing nearby.”
Wardle said the school is in contact with the man’s family and providing support.
He expressed gratitude for the immediate response and support from the school resource officer, the Buffalo Grove police and fire departments, staff members, first responders and community members who provided aid.
“Their quick actions and care made a meaningful difference in a very difficult moment,” he wrote.
He said the school is offering support to students who would like to speak with student services or trusted staff in the days ahead.
“Out of respect for his family, who are navigating an unimaginable moment, I encourage families to monitor their child’s social media regarding images of the accident scene that have begun to circulate online,” he said.
