What do we do now?

I recently bumped into a quote from political theorist Alan Elrond that really struck a chord with me: "No morally healthy country would put this man into power twice. ... We have become morally insane, civically disordered, and a self-regarding decadent country." That's it in a nutshell. Recent events just reinforce the statement. The question is what can be done about it?
