Pope should stay out of politics

I have been a Catholic my entire life. In 1960 I was unable to vote in the National election by two weeks. Nevertheless, I remember the objections to JFK being elected: “Keep the Pope out of the White House!”

Being a young Christian in college then I thought this was an illogical statement to make. Now, many years later, I see that it makes all the sense in the world. All it took was to elect a pontiff from the South side of Chicago who roots for the White Sox. Might he possibly be a Democrat?

His job is to help the world save our souls and he has plenty of problems to solve without getting involved in politics. Our president’s job is to keep America safe.

I think the pope might not have looked at his job description.
